gerber fruit containers

I love these little containers that Gerber baby foods are coming in now. I use a lot of the fruit ones for Alec and I've saved a bunch of the containers. I'm always looking for little boxes for treats and these are perfect.

I cut up little pieces of orange and black tissue paper and pasted them around the containers with mod podge. Since the tissue is so thin, getting them to stick was a breeze. I'm filling them with candy, adding a little label and some curling ribbon to the lid and that's it. Cute and easy.
Are you all also busy with Halloween or did everyone not procrastinate like me. Well, Brianna volunteered me to take the cupcakes and treats to her classroom, so I can't really bake in advance. I have to finish everything by tonight since tomorrow its "Halloween observed" at work and school then its off to the Halloween parties and carnival this weekend!

gael garcia bernal

I was happy to read this article this morning about Gael Garcia Bernal. Back when I was in high school, he starred in a Mexican soap opera that my little cousin would watch and I remember thinking what a cute little boy he was. I lost track of him until about 2000 when I saw "Amores Perros". I liked the movie and remembered him. Then when I saw The Crime of Padre Amaro, I realized just what a good actor he had become. He always seems to pick contraversial roles. You should've seen the commotion that this last movie caused. Across the border, people were practically rioting at the theaters trying to get the movie pulled and not letting people in. I'm glad he's getting recognition now because he is really talented (and I'm not just saying that because I think he's hot). His new movie "The Motorcycle Diaries" is getting some really good reviews. I also can't wait until his next movie opens. It is called "La Mala Educacion" and was directed by one of my *favorite* directors, Pedro Almodovar.
Have a good day, all.

I voted!

I wanted to beat the crowd on Election Day, so today I cast my ballot early. Yes, I feel proud. So, I never blog about politics or religion but am pretty politically passionate. You should've seen me watching the debates. You'd think I was getting ready to watch the superbowl or something. Plus, I was talking back to the tv. It was pathetic, really.
I'm not going to write about who I think you should vote for or why but I want to remind you all to vote. I know a lot of people say that the candidates are the same and don't think they should bother to vote, but I think that's wrong. There's a lot of information out there on many topics.
I spoke to my brother today and mentioned that I had voted. I told him the locations that were close to him where he could go, gave him the hours and then went on and on and on telling him about the candidate I'm going for. I was pretty much preaching to the converted because he was already going for him, but I tend to do that.
This election is going to be very close and everyone's voice needs to be heard. So, get out there and vote too!

pictures

A couple of entries ago, I played the picture request game. Alex, you probably thought I forgot about you, but either due to me missing it, or rain, I haven't gotten a picture of an El Paso sunset. I'm going to publish the other two, though, and hopefully add the other one later today.

This is a picture of a very tan me. If you look closely, you can see the tan lines on my shoulders.

This is a picture of something that I love dearly. I figured you didn't mean "someone", so I put a pic of some of my scrapbooks. I *love* looking back at pictures and love keeping pictures of the kids and seeing how different they look.

I'll post more later!

I'm going to get fat!

My new job reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine complains that there is always cake at her job. There are always treats at my job! The difference is that we don't have to sing "For he/she's a Jolly Good Fellow" or "Happy Birthday". The treats are there just because. One of the first things that everyone told me was that I was going to gain weight. I'm starting to really believe it now. Just today we had a bag of pastries, a box of doughnuts, a box of munchkins, a chocolate cake, some lasagna, some salad, and breadsticks. Yeah, and there was only about 10 of us there today. Yikes! The thing is that I'm not really into sweet bread. My junk food of choice is something like chips. But all that food just being there, and then there's coffee. I mean, you just have to have one. Why can't everyone just take carrot sticks to snack on instead. Ha!
Also, good luck to my now ex co-worker Maribel. Today was her last day at work and she will be moving to Santa Fe this weekend. Good luck!

picture requests

I found this game at Meegan's page and it looks fun! So, being the copycat that I am, here it is. . . .
The concept is to request three things that you'd like to see a picture of in the comments. I take the picture and post it for you. Simple, huh? So, go ahead, ask for something here about me or in El Paso and I'll try to post as soon as possible. I'd kind of like if some of you tried this on your page as well since I'd like to make some requests.
I'll be on the lookout, all.

Oh, thanks for all the good wishes from my last post. Everyone is better now!

since I last wrote. . . . . . .

Since I last wrote. . . . . . . . . .

Alec caught a virus from one of the kids that came to his party. I was furious that someone would bring a sick kid, but . . . I took Alec to his pediatrician and I was told he had herpangina. I was given a prescription and Alec started feeling better. I felt so bad for him because he had sores in his throat and it even hurt to swallow. He was walking around with his toungue out in order to not swallow. He is much better now, though.

Rodrigo's mom finished her treatments. She was being treated for breast cancer and has now completed her chemotherapy and radiation. Rodrigo, his brothers, his sister and all the rest of us took his mom and dad out to a surprise dinner to celebrate. She was surprised and looked really happy to have all her children together. We had a good time and well, it was a very happy occasion.

Last weekend Rodrigo was fighting a cold. We didn't even go anywhere all weekend because he felt so sick. On Wednesday, he still wasn't over it and decided to stay home from work and go see the doctor. He thought he maybe had a sinus infection. Once he was there, he was telling his doctor about some other pain he'd been having and they admitted him to the hospital as an emergency. Yeah. He was having intestinal bleeding. I couldn't believe it when he told me because he'd gone to have a cold checked out and ended up in the hospital. The next day, he had an endoscopy and we found out he has an ulcer. He is now back home but has to stay on medication for four months.

Everything else is well. How are you all doing?
