lemon

I was reading the latest post that Giao made and I remembered about my lemon obsession. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but when I was pregnant with Alec, I went lemon CRAZY. I had to eat lemon everyday. I'd order lemon with every meal and buy sacks of lemon. My friends and co-workers knew about this so they'd also take me lemons to work. For those of you who've been pregnant, you know how you suddenly have super olfactory senses. I could smell EVERYTHING. I hated the smells of gasoline and incense and loved the smell of lemon. I started using only lemon scented cleaners and candles. I also switched my shower gel from the usual moisturizing kind to soaps that smelled just clean like Zest. Then there was one time that I didn't have lemon during lunch. We went back to work and I called one of the floor supervisors to ask any of the workers for lemon. Nobody had any and I started crying. I know it sounds silly now, but it was a big deal then. Luckily Alec wasn't born yellow or something and I still have some enamel left on my teeth.

my intervention

Sorry! I didn't mean to trick you all in my last post. I just thought it was funny. Hee hee.
So, I mentioned how messy my house was. On Saturday, I left to work and knew I had to come home and clean. There was a pile of dirty dishes, laundry that had to be sorted and put away piled on a chair in the living room, hangers for this clothes on the floor, garbage that needed to be taken out, Alec's toys thrown all over, and a dining room table that was just a place to stack mail or whatever else you happened to be carrying when you came in. I got home and noticed that there was a white truck in the driveway. I had no idea who it was but knew that Rodrigo and Alec were home. I couldn't park and just then Rodrigo's dad came out and moved the truck. I saw him and my heart sank. I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me. Rodrigo's parents had come over to visit. Let me first let you know that this was their FIRST time coming over to the house. Yes, this was their first impression. Although my family and Rodrigo's brothers have come over, his parents just never had and they picked THAT DAY to come. I wanted to back out and leave again or start crying but I knew it was too late. I got out of the car and they were just leaving. Once we were alone, I told Rodrigo that I'd hit rock bottom and his parents' visit served as an intervention. I will never again keep my house that messy. It will always be ready for anyone to pop in. You can guess what I did yesterday on my day off. Now I can't wait to have his parents over for dinner and redemption. *Sigh*

I'm exhausted!

I've been too tired to even blog. Seriously. My new job is TIRING. I've been working long hours and when I get home, all I want to do is rest my feet. Alec is sick to top it off. He's had fever and since he's teething really late, he's getting lots of teeth in all at once. My house is a mess! It's amazing how messy a house gets in a few days. All I've been doing is washing bottles and a few dishes. Right now my house is at a "Please God, don't let anybody come over" stage. I think I'm going delirious too because I left Alec's thermometer on top of our bookcase and I walked right past it right now. I kind of saw it and did a double take feeling shocked. I thought it was a pregnancy test!

I still work today and tomorrow before I have a day off. Oh well, what can I say? When we want the kind of stuff that we have, we HAVE to work. Have a good day, all!

Congratulations, Brianna!

Yesterday we spent a very pleasant Father's Day at my mom's. My mom made stir fry and we gave gifts to my dad, Rodrigo, and my brother. Brianna, Darian (my nephew) and Alec were playing and Rodrigo and I were given a chance to sneak off and head over to Starbucks. Yum. I love those Strawberries & Cream frappucinos.

Today was Brianna's Pre-K graduation. She was very excited last night and could hardly sleep. She was nervous about the three songs they had to perform and about holding her diploma in one hand while shaking her principal's hand with the other. How cute. So, we got to the theater and after the children were seated, parents were given a chance to get up and take pictures. I took a couple. We went back to our seats and a few kids went up to say the pledge of allegiance. Brianna was one of the chosen kids and when she was handed the microphone, I had to use all the self-control that I had to not get up and take more pictures. That's when I got all teary-eyed. I got verklempt and people had to talk amongst themselves. The ceremony went well. The diplomas were handed out and the kids sang and danced. All without anyone falling. The children were taken back to school and I was able to take a few more pictures in her classroom. Brianna received her diploma, a class picture in a frame from her teacher, a silhouette picture of her profile with her name and date, and a medallion which reads "Future College Graduate". We were informed that they would be the college class of 2021. Wow. Afterwards we went out to eat. Food was delicious but I swear they put sleeping powder in it or something because we were all sleepy right after eating. We've spent the rest of the afternoon lounging around. Brianna will be going back to school tomorrow because she will be taking a field trip to Chuck E. Cheese's for having perfect attendance. Can you tell I'm one of those annoying proud moms?

Here is one of the pictures I took. You can find more here.

graduation gifts

This coming Monday, Brianna will be graduating from Pre-K. Today we made little gifts for her friends at school. We've been saving the little containers that the Gerber baby food comes in now. All we did was line them with tissue paper, add crinkle shred, candies, and a little note from Brianna inside. We covered the lid with green tissue paper and added some curling ribbon. It was easy enough for Brianna to help but they look cute enough to be able to give out. I'll keep you posted on the graduation!

Happy Birthday, Alec!

I can't believe my tiny little baby is a year old today! Time has just gone by so quickly.

Alec,
One year ago I wanted you to be born already for selfish reasons. I wanted to hold you, to feel you and even to smell you. I was very worried when you were actually born ahead of time. You were so tiny at 4 lbs. I never knew that I could love someone so little so much. You immediately filled our hearts and lives with love and joy. Your daddy wanted to take care of you all the time. Your sister wanted to play with you. EVERYONE wanted to hold you. I love watching you grow and learn. I can't remember what my life was like before you. Happy 1st birthday, Alec Julian!

Te quiero, mi amor. Eres mi vida.

update

As much as I say that I'm going to write everyday, this week has just been impossible for me. I finally found a job and I just started training. I was lucky to find somewhere that I could work evenings and weekends that isn't like a restaurant or something. I was being so picky, I was sure I'd end up working some minumum wage job. Luckily, I'm not. It's going very well. The one thing that concerns me a bit is the dress code. I'm not to break it, but I don't have too many clothes that fall into dress code standards. We have to wear dresses or skirts with hose or tights. The only pants that we may wear are dress trousers with a coordinating jacket which must be worn at all times. No capri pants. No open toe shoes. All shoes must have at least a strap in the back. No sleeveless outfits. No capri pants. Absolutely no denim. No khakis. No sandals. Guys have to wear a tie and jacket at all times. I've built up an "office wardrobe" for the past few years but for summer I have a lot of sleeveless pant suits and summer dresses. Oh well. I'll stop for now because I'm going to finish cleaning up. I'd forgotten how much work it is to keep a clean house and work away from home. ARGH!

sunday memes

I hope you all are having as relaxing a weekend as I am. As I've mentioned before, Rodrigo and I have really been catching up on movies. This weekend we saw Monster and Mystic River both of which I really recommend. I've also had my nose stuck in a book for the past week and a half. I'm reading The DaVinci Code (yes, barely) and I can't put it down! That book is just full of interesting stuff. So, is it my imagination or did I hear that there's a movie being made? I found this game this morning and completed it. All the clues are on the book's dust cover but if you want to play and don't have the book, there's a copy you can use right on that page.
I'm going to do memes now but before I go I want to tell you all about comedian Rodrigo here. There was a contest on the radio asking people to call in and give one of the top ten things overheard at Jennifer Lopez's wedding. There were responses such as, "place your bets, place your bets" and "didn't she die in Corpus Christi"? Rodrigo wasn't able to get through but his quote was, "Does this dress make my ass look big?". Yeah, we were laughing. Anyway, here they go. . .

my toys

Brianna is always asking me about when I was a little girl. She wants to know the names of my teachers, my friends, what I played with. etc. Lately, she's been really curious about my toys. It's funny that she likes a lot of the same toys that I liked when I was her age such as Barbies, Strawberry Shortcake, Hello Kitty, and My Little Pony. She thinks it's really ridiculous that I loved Monchhichis, though. She says it's silly to have a monkey doll. I guess. The one toy that I loved and no one seems to remember is Poochie. I loved that little dog. I had a plush doll, stationary, rubber stamp sets, and books. I found that site and was showing it to Brianna when I realized just how many 80's toys I'd forgotten about. I also had a couple of Serendipity books, Rose Petal Place characters, and Maple Town dolls. Do you remember these? Any toys you remember as a kid?

friday five

I miss the Friday Five. I've been looking for a new meme to replace it but still haven't tried any. I even thought of starting my own, but there's just so many memes. I don't know if I have the patience. I think I'd probably quit if I didn't get at least 40 players on the first try. Heh, heh. Anyway, I was looking through The memes list and I found The Friday Fiver. I decided to try it, so here are my answers.

Do you remember?
1. Where were you went you heard that Ronald Reagan died?
-at home watching "The Lord of the Rings-Return of the King". My grandmother called me and asked if Ronald Reagan had died. I checked MSN and confirmed. I was sad.

2. Where were you on September 11, 2001?
-I had just woken up and was watching The Today Show after the first plane. I thought it was some kind of horrible accident then the second plane hit. I was shocked. We were told not to show up to work that day and I was glued to the tv that entire day.

3. Where were you when you heard that Princess Diana died?
-I was working until 1:00am at that time. I had just gotten home from work and turned on the tv for a little while. It was all over the news.

4. Do you remember where you were when you heard Kurt Cobain had died?
-I had just gotten home from school (high school) and turned to MTV.

5. Take one for The Gipper: What's your favorite flavor of jelly bean?
-I just tried Starburst jellybeans this past Easter and I loved them! All flavors!

pre-k "itis"

We have three major school districts in our city. One of them has year-round schooling and the other two are out for the summer. Brianna's Pre-K is part of the other two but she's still in school. The reason is because they get a three week break in November and in March. A lot of kids in the Pre-K have older brothers/sisters that are already on summer vacation and they no longer want to go to school. For Brianna, it's getting harder and harder for her to get ready on time. We've missed the bus a few times now. She has a bad case of senioritis or in her case, pre-kitis. The school understands and so they've made this last month full of activities. So far, they've gone to the zoo, had lunch with parents, had an "insect parade" (each class was a different insect [Brianna's was butterflies] and they marched around playing instruments). They had Career Day with speakers from different professions and also a "what I want to be when I grow up" day. Brianna went dressed as a ballerina that day. All the kids looked cute that day. There were firefighters, lots of ballerinas, cops, doctors, nurses, cheerleaders, and I don't understand why but there was a cow. Oh, they also had a parade that day. Now, with the National Day of Mourning, they cancelled classes tomorrow and well, the kids are happy. I'm also looking forward to school ending just because we have to drive so far. Once she starts kindergarten next school year, she'll be close to home. I know she'll miss her friends but they're all going to different schools. I can't believe my baby is graduating from Pre-K. I know I'm going to cry. It was hard enough to see her get on the school bus for the first time. I got all teary-eyed and thought, "She's just a baby. How can I be sending her off to school?" Oh well. I still have a couple of weeks to practice not crying.

Anyway, I haven't done memes for a while, so here they are. . . .

Thursday Threesome
Onesome: School-- Since the school year seems to be over (your mileage may vary: some of you are already in summer sessions!): what was your favorite year in school? Yeah, the one you had the best time in or learned something special or had that learning breakthrough?
-I had a blast all throughout high school. I guess I had the most fun my junior year before my friends graduated.

Twosome: Bus-- Hey, how did you get to school in the early years? Walk? Bike? Mommy van? Bus? ...and for those still attending, how are you getting to and fro these days?
-my mom would drive me

Threesome: Stop-- ...and when did you stop going to school? ...or did you? Are you still at it? Any plans to go back for those who are out of the system?
-I stopped after 2 years of college. I got a job that paid tuition after being there for a year. I figured I'd take a break then get my tuition paid for. Then I got a job as a flight attendant, moved to Phoenix, came back, had Brianna, etc. etc. and I haven't gone back.

That's it for now! Have a great day, all!

jennifer lopez

Ok, I HAVE to post about this because it is really bothering me. J-Lo. I really have an issue with her. Those of you who've known me for the last couple of years (Denise, we had this discussion years ago) know this is true. Yes, I think she's an alright singer, an alright actress, and a good dancer. I don't think she's great at any of these things so I don't understand what the big deal is. I think she should be thanking her butt and Versace every day for making her famous. I was pretty indifferent about her then she broke up with Puffy (whatever he's going by these days) after that whole shooting thing. That really got to me because she was there and she totally let him take the heat for everything. What a bad friend. Then the whole Ben Affleck thing. I was quite disappointed when he started dating her. I thought she was going to ruin his career. Then they give interviews together at their home in which she was asked what made their relationship different. She said that this time it was "real" and she now knew that she hadn't been in love before. Uh-huh. In her "Jenny from the Block" video, he's untying her bikini top, slapping her butt, she's dancing topless wearing a fur and then they have the audacity to say that they postponed their wedding because the media focuses on them too much. Huh?! They do it to themselves. I remember Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin got married at about that same time. Now, Gwyneth is a much better actress and as far as I'm concerned, Chris is a much better musician. But, the way they carried about their relationship was WAY different. I don't remember any Coldplay video in which Chris slaps Gwyneth's butt.
So, a little more than six months ago Ben was Jennifer's "love of her life" "the real thing" and now she's married to Marc Anthony. I don't understand how that works. As far as Marc Anthony, I guess he's trying to ruin his image too. He somehow managed to marry beautiful ex Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. They then separate and get back together. They renew their vows in a HUGE wedding in Puerto Rico. Up until a couple of days ago, pictures of this royal-like wedding were still posted on his official website. (They're off now, I checked today.) Then they split up again and he got a quickie divorce in the Dominican Republic LAST WEEK.
Ben and Jen's wedding was "postponed" two days before it was supposed to take place.
Which means that everything was ready. I wonder if she used the same style or dress since she used the same wedding coordinator. I guess not since she's so super rich and a mega spender, oh I'm sorry, she's still Jenny from the block. I think I'd still be a little distraught about the whole situation. I guess I'm not as resilient. There are rumors now that she is pregnant. Hmm, who knows?
I don't understand what they see in her. Yes, she's pretty but she doesn't strike me as the smartest person. Is a big butt enough to make men buy her cars, houses, and diamonds? If it is, hey, I can dance and I'm sure I can act as well as she does. I'll go get a butt augmentation and let the gifts start rolling in.
What bothers me the most is that she gives women a bad name. You'd think that someone as rich and famous as her would try to act a little stronger. I'd use my money for a good cause not for weddings every few years. She acts like she just cannot be without a man. As long as she's been famous she goes from relationship to relationship. From Ohani to Marc Anthony to Puffy to Chris Judd to Ben Affleck back to Marc Anthony. She's been married to three of these guys and engaged to one. Man, what a track record. I'd be embarrassed if I were her. Now there are online polls asking how long you think this marriage will last. I heard so far "they'll be divorced by January" is winning.
In this whole thing I feel bad for Dayanara. I saw her on a talk show in Spanish where she started crying. She said that she gave up her modeling career to focus on her marriage and motherhood but it wasn't enough for him. She was saying that she still loved Marc Anthony and was always going to love him. They asked her what she thought about rumors that he was dating J-Lo and she said that Jen had caused so many problems in their marriage that it would just be like a slap in the face if the rumors were true.
I don't know. What do you think?

Ooooohhhhhh! Update! I just posted this and went to MSN. This past Sunday, Rodrigo and I were wondering what Jen & Marc's new "name" would be. We came up with Jenimarc, Marcifer, Jennifer Anthony, and a few others. We were just messing around thinking the whole "Bennifer" thing wouldn't happen again but I just read the new name is now Jenthony. Seriously. Ha!

I've been busy all weekend and I'll try to write later. To summarize my weekend, I cleaned, we watched movies, I'm sad that Ronald Reagan died and shocked that Jennifer Lopez got married. She seems to fall in love so easily. I'm in the middle of something but I found this at Tommy's page and I decided to put it on mine as well. I'm curious as to what you think of me, so please copy and paste onto the comments. Thanks!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday! Yea! She turns 48 today. Yes, I said it. I gave her age. You know why? Because she loves showing off her age and telling everyone just how old she is. Then she gets the, "48? Are you serious? You don't look 48." She loves that. So again happy birthday, ma.

This is my mom and Brianna at Disneyland.

I was talking to my grandma today. (She says she likes watching tv to learn things and likes watching Spanish talk shows, real news and also gossip shows.) Our conversation was like this (but in Spanish). . . .

grandma: Mija, what's a "metrosexual"?
me (surprised she knew about this): it's a straight man that looks neat, well-groomed and cares about his appearance. Like someone who gets facials and manicures.(That's the best translation I could make)
grandma: Ohhhhh.........
me: why? what did you think?

Now you must realize that "metro" in Spanish is a meter, as in the metric system.

grandma (blushing): well.... I thought it was a man who claimed to be "so endowed" it was as long as a meter. You know, a "sexual meter".
me: Bwah Ha Ha Ha!

new template

I was messing around with the new blogger templates yesterday. I'd been considering changing mine for a while yesterday. I liked the pink one and thought I could preview it then clear the edits and it would go back to the old template. Not so. I lost all the settings. ARGH! You know that feeling you get when you accidentally delete something or you've been working on something for a while and the computer reboots or there's a blackout or something like that and you haven't saved your work. That's how I felt. I lost all my links and had to redo everything. I liked the pink so I decided to leave it although my "helloyvetty" link button doesn't match anymore. I also attempted to make a banner but I think it's too small for the space. I decided to add the daisies because I love the way they look in the spring and summer. I thought about adding some orange and red gerber daisies but I figured the pink looks ok on its own.

On another note, I just saw Kill Bill Vol.1 (because I'm a year behind on movies, remember?) Oh, I loved it. Yes, it's really violent but it's really over-the-top and you know it's fake. I've been pretending to be GoGo since we saw it. She's awesome. Rodrigo said I remind him of little kids who go watch a movie and leave all inspired pretending to be Spiderman or The Hulk or something. Whatever. Anyway, I'm going to catch up on memes. . . .

hi, all!

I've been super busy and I can't believe it's been a week since I last posted. I hope all of your Memorial day weekends went well.
I've been looking for a job. You know those infomercials they play on tv and always have a number to call? Well, I take those calls here from home. That's my current job. It was going pretty well and I decided to take it so that I could stay home with Brianna and Alec. Since they don't have the expense of a center and equipment, they were able to pay us pretty well. The only problem is that we get paid for the amount of time that we work not the amount of time we are logged in to work. For example, if I'm logged on for two hours and I receive 15 minutes worth of calls, then I only get paid for 15 minutes. Recently, it has slowed down sooooooo much. I'll be logged in for a long time and not receive anything. I figure I'd rather get paid for the time that I'm actually at work, so that's why I've been looking. This past week I had a couple of interviews and was offered a position as an insurance claims coordinator. I had to turn it down because it was a full-time 9-6 job. Argh! My grandma used to watch Brianna for me but by this time Brianna was already about 2 years old. Before that, I worked 2nd shift and my mom would watch her. I think Alec is too much of a handful for my grandma now. Plus, I have no one to drop off and pick up Brianna from school. Rodrigo works a town away and leaves early. I was telling my friends that I'm going to have a hard time finding a job if I'm this picky. I want something part-time preferably in the afternoon. Then I got a reality check when one said "You can find any job. It just probably won't be something you'd like to do or that you're used to doing." I guess that's true. Besides flight attending, I've always worked in an office. Oh well.
Looking for a job is so time consuming. I had never really had a problem. Then again, I'd always worked full time. I should start a job seeker company that pays people for the amount of time they spend looking for a job. I'd have companies who want to advertise pay a small fee then they'd have a bunch of people looking at their ads. Anyway, I'll try to write more later because I'm going to search some more. Wish me luck.
